Apple Turnovers with Spiced Pastry

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

To 1 cup flour add:
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon cloves (ground)
1/3 cup shortening
2 ½ tablespoon orange juice
Work as for pie crust. Roll out and cut into 6 squares (4 inches).
Filling
Mix 2 tablespoons sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon ground 
cloves. Pare and slice thinly 2 to 3 cooking apples, mix with half the 
sugar mixture and 2 tablespoons water. Place 1 tablespoon apple 
mixture in each square, dot with butter, fold and seal. Brush each 
square with slightly beaten egg white and dust with some of the sugar 
mixture. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes or until lightly browned .cool on rack.
